biblical case for the trinity pt -2

B -- the three persons

“But now hear, O Jacob my servant, Israel whom I have chosen!
Thus says the Lord who made you, who formed you from the womb and will help you:
Fear not, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen.
For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
They shall spring up among the grass like willows by flowing streams.
This one will say, ‘I am the Lord's,’ another will call on the name of Jacob, and another will write on his hand, ‘The Lord's,’ and name himself by the name of Israel.”
Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god --- isaiah 44 :1 -6

“Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I called! I am he; I am the first, and I am the last.
My hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them,
 they stand forth together. “Assemble, all of you, and listen! Who among them has declared these things? The Lord loves him; he shall perform his purpose on Babylon, and his arm shall be against the Chaldeans.
I, even I, have spoken and called him; I have brought him, and he will prosper in his way.
Draw near to me, hear this: from the beginning I have not spoken in secret, from the time it came to be I have been there.” And now the Lord God has sent me, and his Spirit.

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.--- isaiah 48 : 12 -18

For our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities:
transgressing, and denying the Lord, and turning back from following our God,
speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words.
Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter.
Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey The Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.
He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intercede; then his own arm brought him salvation, and his righteousness upheld him.
He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head;
he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in zeal as a cloak.
According to their deeds, so will he repay, wrath to his adversaries, repayment to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render repayment.
So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun;
for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the Lord drives.
“And a Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression,” declares the Lord.
“And as for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children's offspring,” says the Lord, “from this time forth and forevermore -- isaiah 59 :12 -21

I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord, the praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has granted us, and the great goodness to the house of Israel that he has granted them according to his compassion, according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
For he said, “Surely they are my people, children who will not deal falsely.” And he became their Savior.
In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them;
in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.
But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit therefore he turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.
Then he remembered the days of old, of Moses and his people. Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he who put in the midst of them his Holy Spirit,
who caused his glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them to make for himself an everlasting name,
who led them through the depths? Like a horse in the desert, they did not stumble.
Like livestock that go down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest. So you led your people, to make for yourself a glorious name.
Look down from heaven and see, from your holy and beautiful habitation. Where are your zeal and your might? The stirring of your inner parts and your compassion are held back from me.
For you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us;
you, O Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.
O Lord, why do you make us wander from your ways and harden our heart, so that we fear you not?
Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage -- isaiah 63 :7 -17

the above passages are all from isaiah -- the same book which talks of the ONE BEING of GOD  but here in a few examples of many on the the topis of salvation which is not the topic i wish to delve into here .. but rather show a consistent theme which is through the great many passages, but these four suffice to make this clear ... there are 3 persons which are all seen as this one God
note isaiah 48 :12 -17 for example .. this discribes a future even which is in line with joel 2 and acts 2 in reference to the coming of the holy spirit at pentecost .. which was the promise of our lord Jesus christ dure in his mission and after he had completed his work on the cross

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him;  and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”--- matthew 3 :13 -17

I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer;  concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you--- john 16 :5 -16

So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him --- Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified roman 8 :12 -17, 26 -30

apart from the first 1 which i added for clarity on the issue of the distinct persons of the triune God -- in that matthew 3 we have the father speaking from heaven, the son is the one being baptised as a sign of obedience which we are to emulate. as it show a righteous act ... and we have the spirit enabling the son to carry out his ministy of the reconciliation of man to God in the long rune .. but here he appears in the form of a dove

and this is seen more fully in the last 2 referenced passage of john 16 :5 -15 and romans 8 :12 -17, and 26 -30, which gives us some great information

the first one is in john 16 ....

this is an important passage as it one of a few examples of John showing us from jesus' words that the tri personal God is totally involved in the work of redemption... as we know God the father made the only way possible in the send and ultimately the giving of the son, the son accomplishes his fathers will in his death .. by dying for those whom he made it for, but not every person, and as we will see in moment that the spirits role is to make that justification an act which involves many different points .. as the convictor .. the spirit leads a believer to understand his sin and dispise it fully ... this is form of regeneration

the believer recieves new life ... which leads to true saving faith as a gift, one of many .... and as promised this is seen in these words ... "he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer;  concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

this is the only time where the term world is used to represent the non believers, for example john 3 :`16 -17 represents the believers only .... to make that use as a universal connective world be seal doom for all men including those who believe ... therfore world has to be defined in the context it is found in, and here it is ultimately used reprent the unblievers

it is simply this manner of exegesis that allows us to come to an indepth understanding of what we read -- the wrong understanding can and will lead to a false position

the second one is romans 8

here we are great with a chapter which explains the intricacies of the complex spiritual journey a believer leads .... this one chapter is filled with great information
as is in the previous passage of john 16, this demonstrates the same connection of of Gods work in salvation, but also give some information on two levels

1 --- the end result of this gift of salvation ... the adoption of sons and daughters of God

2 --- the life of a believer in connection of spiritual prayer through the triune God

lets give some passage references ....

"For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ"

this passage shows us that those lead by the spirit of God are children of God ... meaning those first regenerated by the spirit .. are then lead to the point of being made new in christ and therefore are called children of God

"For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God"

here we are told of the spirits work in interceding through believers prayer .. in much the same sense as the son intercedes for believers in his preistly work ... this is an act which God alone can only do -- and do perfectly
it is said that "For we do not know what to pray for as we ought" ... clearly our prayer have a foundation which is beyond human scope of -- it is in this fact that man is at the complete mercy of God through the spirit

"For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified roman"

there is not enough space to go into these verses , but there is an important point to be made ... this is all a connective the whole passage flows from start to end .. and this is the climax where we are told that all that has been made clear in this chapter was not based on human will, but Gods will .. as he had alone chose to show us mercy through his son ... God chosen from eternity in his own council and will to save a group to bring himself glory ... (more on this particular subject is examined in regards to other article on the reformed calvinistic view of romans 8 :28 -34 )

the main focus is God is for his chosen believers .. he wont judge us as we have been granted mery .. but this passage demonstrate the tri personal understanding in redemption and the life of a believer
