Is Calvinism a lie ? A refutation of "Calvinism and the bible" part-1

The non-reformed spinning wheel are putting out articles against Calvinism and one such article titled "Calvinism and the Bible" a nine page refutation of the doctrines of grace, which is demonstrating nothing new as it is the same as many other such attempts; this particular one demonstrates that such attacks a mostly lop-sided and error ridden monstrosity.

One thing I did notice is that it does not even deal with some of the more important texts of scripture; which have been seen as central keys to the position. Texts such as the following ones John 6:35-45, Romans 8:28-34 - 9:1-24, Ephesians 1:3-11. It does not even deal with the other texts that are flowing from these central texts.

With all this said, we now can turn to the article for slice of its "refutation" and assess it upon it's logic and consistency (or the lack thereof). Here is how this article starts,
Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
Why would God ask us to reason with Him, if we were so dead in our sins that we couldn't reason with Him?
Psalm 14: 1-3 "To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one."
Remember the Bible says it is the fool that has said in his heart that there is no God. It is a choice to come to that conclusion. It wasn’t that he couldn’t come to the conclusion that there is a God, but he chose to make that decision; and because of that, there is no good thing in him.
Men are required to make a choice for God in this lifetime. That is why we are here. Period.
Here is first argument that man raises up against Calvinism, the essence of the argument basically is this: Since Calvinism teaches that man is dead in sin (unregenerate) and is not able to do anything spiritually pleasing , when it comes to God. No Calvinist would assume such as thing as, man cannot reason or choose because they are corrupted by nature. The reality of this is that each and every sinner can and does reason and choose; they just choose and reason against what is obvious and true: that there is one true God and that they are sinners by nature.

Now lets consider these first passages in order that may gain the fuller meaning; the first passage we are to examine is:

Come now, and let us reason together, Says the Lord, Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool. If you consent and obey, you will eat the best of the land; "but if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword. "Truly, the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
We need to see this passage for what it is teaching and not what we want to see in it, the best way for us to fully understand this: rather than it being about a cordial kind of presentation of our personal view, it is to be seen in the following context that the reason should be understood to convey the ability to see the true condition of the sinfulness of man. Mans view is to see themselves as being basically good, whereas Gods view the correct one. Man is a fallen man due to the corruption that was the direct result of Adams disobedience.

Now notice the next passage that is utilized in this attack,

The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.
The commentary states, "it's a choice" for someone to come to the conclusion that there is no God. No doubt it based on a choice, but no choice is independent of God himself; all choice whether they are to worship God as God or reject God and who he is, it is based on Gods very decree. One should notice that the term "fool" does not describe someone who is lacking understanding, rather it is someone who could be really smart; they just disconnect God from the whole means of gaining that position. In other words, they will not give God the reverence and praise for the fact that he has been gracious to these people.

With this all said we can turn to the first doctrine: Total depravity, which this is what he has to state,

When one talks about the 'Total depravity of man', typically what the person means is that man is so dead in his sins that there is no way that he can believe what Jesus Christ has done for him without God first enabling him to do so. Some people refer to this concept as 'total inability'.
Now we can move on to the next few example provided to see if they are being utilized correctly.

Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; .... Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the Lord, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, Isaiah 55:3,7.
From that time Jesus began to preach and say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17
Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent,  because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.”  Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some began to sneer, but others said, “We shall hear you again concerning this.” Acts 17:30-32.

Here are a few example where The prophets, Jesus and the apostle give commands to the crowd, that they must repent of their sins and trust in God and his messiah. In place these commands as the central aspect of the bible, many such as the writer of the original article are falsely assuming that man can in fact repent by their own will, independent of God's work in regeneration. The general gospel call is universal as in it is meant to be taken to all people; but the inward call of the spirit is only for those whom God has chosen.

In effect what this kind of understanding does; is turn the gospel of grace into a gospel of works based theology. It strips the gospel of its true beauty and replace it with a false message of man centredness. These passage only explain the external act of the preaching, they do not give the internal work of the Holy Spirit; who alone is the one that causes regeneration unto divine faith and repentance.

What would such a person say to the following passages,
Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down out of heaven.” They were saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, I have come down out of heaven’?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Do not grumble among yourselves.  No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught of God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me (John 6 :40-45)
Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, “This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?” But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble? What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.  And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.” (John 6 :60-65)
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,  so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.  For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8: 1-8)
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are Abraham’s descendants; yet you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. I speak the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father.”(John 8 :31-39)

Notice the above texts are the theological passages about how one is saved; and in the first 3 passage mans ability is being discussed in the negative aspect, they all say in the Greek that man has no ability. Therefore, when it comes to salvation man cannot come to Christ apart from the fathers drawing alone, just in the same manner that the unregenerate man has no ability to please the father: taking this to its logical conclusion Man is not able to even contribute to anything of what good does.
In the last passage, we are told in no certain terms that man is a slave unto his own depraved nature due to the sin of Adam, and his own consistent wanting to do what is evil in the Lords sight.

Lets consider how this man handle the next doctrine: Irresistible grace
Calvinism teaches that one must be regenerated first before he or she can believe. The only problem is that you will never find that in the Bible. The Bible teaches that you are regenerated when you believe and not before you believe.
This gentleman does not provide any scripture to say that another manner is true, just makes the bold statement "you will never find it in the bible" in accords to regeneration unto faith, whereby he thinks faith unto regeneration.
Consider the following passages on the subject of regeneration and all it entails,

I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” Jeremiah 31:33-34.

Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries among which you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.”’  When they come there, they will remove all its detestable things and all its abominations from it. And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances and do them. Then they will be My people, and I shall be their God. But as for those whose hearts go after their detestable things and abominations, I will bring their conduct down on their heads,” declares the Lord God. Ezekiel 11: 17-21.

For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands and bring you into your own land. Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. You will live in the land that I gave to your forefathers; so you will be My people, and I will be your God. Moreover, I will save you from all your uncleanness; Ezekiel 36:24-29a
Here are the old testament witness to the new birth (regeneration) which the Spirit of God is the one who does this wonderful work. In this act we see that God will cause his elect walk in accordance to the law, this ultimately means that they will be brought to faith in Christ and be repentant as a result. Therefore, the idea of repentance being merely a human action is void of any biblical support, by referring to passages that only speak of the command of such a thing; this does not logically follow that they will repent. In fact, when we consider what john 3 as a whole states and not a few out of context verses say, we begin to get a picture that the Spirits role is seen as an integral part of the transaction from the darkness to the light. Notice what this section teaches:
Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews;  this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things?  Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony. If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” John 3:1-21
For any Christian who has an interest in how one is to correctly hand any and all text of scripture. We first must read it context, allow the authors to define his point in Context, and finally we must teach it context. So this means we must exegete the passage in light of these rules (context, context, context). Now when we begin with this passage was are immediately drawn to the father that it is not primarily about Christ, it is in fact discuss the tri-personal relation in salvation. First it is the Holy Spirit and his role: REGENERATION. Second it is the Son and his role : REDEMPTION.

In the first aspect: Regeneration, this is the first step mention in regards to the passage in question. The terms that are used in these fist verses "born again" and "born of the spirit" are both used synonymously to refer to the same truth; in that the believer has been regenerated by the Spirit of Christ and God.
We should take notice of a few points in this passage which exclude the natural efforts of man: a) In order for one to see heaven, or enter heaven; they must be born again. This tells us one single fact, that the believer is only a believer because of What God has done in him, it is God who makes one spiritually alive through regeneration. b) the background to this whole act is founded upon the old testament truth as demonstrated by the above mentioned texts from Jeremiah and Ezekiel.

In the second aspect: Redemption, this is the final step mentioned in regards to the passage in question. there is a significant connection with the serpent in verse 14 to that of the Lord in verse 15, if we are to see this fact, then we can follow the rest of this passage with ease. We should first take note that the idea of "believing on the Serpent of our salvation; in other words, Christ seeks us from death in the manner the serpent seeks its pray. To see this we must see that as the serpent release some sent upon the victim in order to track it down, we have been predestine in Christ and he came to die for those he had been given.

Now how are we to understand John 316-21; well there is a simple manner which gives us a true handle on it. a) this is to be seen as a summary of all that is gone before, thereby making it a divine revelation give to John personally. This means that it cannot be used to dismiss all that the chapter has thus far cemented as the pillar of truth. b)  the terms that are loosely used to refer to a universalistic atonement in Christ cannot logically find such meaning. As they are related to the rest of the passage. therefore, " world" refers to those in whom are predestined, whom are regenerated unto divine faith and true repentance; and finally are given to Christ and secured in his atoning work.

Along with the above passages, one can go to another set of passages such as the following,
For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Just one thing: Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or am absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, working side by side for the faith that comes from the gospel, not being frightened in any way by your opponents. This is a sign of destruction for them, but of your deliverance—and this is from God. For it has been given to you on Christ’s behalf not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him, having the same struggle that you saw I had and now hear that I have.(Philippians 1:27-30)
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of Him. This is how we know that we love God’s children when we love God and obey His commands. For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden, because whatever has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 john 5:1-5)
Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. According to His great mercy, He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, uncorrupted, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. You are being protected by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.(1 peter 1: 3-5).
Based on these above passages we can argue biblically that it is Gods view that he alone has granted men to have faith in Christ, and to suffer for that faith; based on the very act of regeneration. One has to be transformed from darkness to light, from spiritually dead to spiritually alive in Christ: which can only take place through the act of being born again (regeneration).
It is therefore, necessary for us to hold to the reality of the matter: Regeneration leads to repentance and faith, and is the very basis of the our godliness being brought to forefront.

Lets consider how this man handles the next doctrine: Unconditional Election
If election is real, God is a respecter of persons. But the Bible shows that He clearly is not. Never forget that whosoever believes in Him shall receive remission of sins. Praise the Lord!!The Bible teaches that election is conditional on one’s belief. When you believe, you are elect.
The basic point in this assessment is a 2 prong approach, whereby he seeks to dismiss the doctrine. First, by the respecter of persons argument. And then followed by he seeks to redefine the nature of salvation from being a free gift to one that is dependent on human faith. He follows this up by this example,

1 Peter 1:1, 2 "Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied."
Election does not mean that God elected some and rejected others. The word election, according to 1 Peter, simply means that God, since He is omniscient, knew who would believe in Him and it is those people He calls the elect. It is really that simple. We mustn't change the definition of a word! Calvinists
Let us consider this attack more closely to see what this leads too:

First, "the respecters of persons" does not work for the following reason. the passages in which it is found one in acts is not about who will be saved but the nature it takes on; this being that is not longer for just one kind of people: the Jews. But has been given to the gentiles too (the number of saved is not in discussion). In the James 2 passage it is not about salvation at all but the worship of believers. One is not to give one person preferential treatment because of their social status, or their color  or any other factor. We are to see the poor and rich in the body of Christ as people of Christ.
A further problem in this manner of utilizing scriptures it reveal a sever false application being made. We are not to utilize a standard God has provide for the benefit of his people and force God to abide by it.

Second, this idea that "salvation is dependent on human faith" is nothing more than a Norman Giesler concoction; which lacks any real validity as far as the bible is concerned. But what needs to be noted is the fact that if we take this to its logical conclusion, then one must assert that God is not able to save anyone on his own; as it seems to be what is being said when one allows this and the idea of God know who would be believe. In other words, he chose them based on their independent acts. There however is a problem in this when one considers that no one existed at the time of salvation being planned in the Godhead. what this tells us is that this view lack any credibility to stand on its own terms. This is the same concept as the ideal of molinism, God looking down the corridor of time and choosing people based on how they interacted with the gospel call, it is a heresy.

Third, the idea that the Calvinist is redefining terms in the case of "predestination" which does not refer to a foreseen choice, whereby God's choice is based on the foreseen acts of man. It is in  fact, telling us that God's choosing is based not on man but on his own will and what Christ accomplished in his obedience.
In fact, when one understand how "predestination" and God's "omniscience" are both tied into his decrees; we can begin to see that all that happen in time, only does so based on the fact that God determined every single thing to come to pass.

Now lets us consider a few important texts which all speak to predestination which did not receive any attention,
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified. Romans 8 :28-30)

For He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will, to the praise of His glorious grace that He favored us with in the Beloved. We have redemption in Him through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure that He planned in Him for the administration of the days of fulfillment to bring everything together in the Messiah, both things in heaven and things on earth in Him.We have also received an inheritance in Him, predestined according to the purpose of the One who works out everything in agreement with the decision of His will Ephesians 1:4-11)
For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.  And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit. 1 Thessalonians  1: 4-6,

But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the first fruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15.
In the above passages we see that the people who are saved are only saved due to the fact that God chose them from the foundation of the earth; even more to the fact that he chose them before creation came to be. He knew who would be saved not based on some speculative theory of seeing how some would interact with the preaching of the gospel, but because he created a people for this specific purpose.
One should also note that the writer of the original article never touch on these above passages, and why does he not because he cannot true be biblical in manner. For a more thorough examination of the first two mentioned look at my exegesis provided on this blog.

Lets consider how this man handle the next doctrine: Limited atonement,
Calvinists traditionally believe that Jesus died only for the sins of the elect and not for the sins of the whole world. This is what they call ‘limited atonement’. When you meet four point Calvinists, they almost always drop the “L” in TULIP. Why? Because the Bible clearly teaches against it.
Here we have this man's main assertion or main objection against the doctrine of Limited atonement. In which we find these words "Because the Bible clearly teaches against it." Just what are we led to believe about the bible teaching against it. What exactly does it teach against since the man does not give a true understanding of the doctrine.
Let us consider what the doctrine true teaches and in doing this we will call it Definite atonement as it capture the true essence.
The biblical position on the atoning work of Christ in salvation and it is fountain of depth; it is therefore, important to make a clear and precise explanation of this truth. With this in mind, we need to touch on a few points which are necessary in our understanding. The first thing that is in focus is this: What is known as limited atonement or definite atonement; one needs to see that it is addressing the nature and extent of the cross work. The second thing that is in focus is this: the efficacious work of the cross for those whom it was design that being the elect.
Here I have provided a more precise idea of what the actual doctrine teaches, that being the very nature of the atoning work; we can understand this in terms of the nature and extend of its power.
Now lets consider what this man offer as a refutation of this truth,
1 John 2:2 states, "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world."
John 1:29 says, "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which take away the sin of the world."
1 Timothy 2:4 "Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth."
The assertion being made from these 3 scriptures (which are out of context). The first two text are salvation related but the term world is much to bland based on a single verse, but in the context of the whole body of John's writing make more sense in light of all John states. Which makes world a synonymous term for the elect based on the more clearer passages such as John 6 and 10.
Whereas the last text does not strictly have a specific salvation related theme; it does however, have a more congregational theme.

Here are the only passage that are offered as refutation of this truth, immediately we should note not one is speaking to the nature or the effectiveness of the atonement, they are more naturally pointing towards who will be saved. More than anything.
The only one that could be seen in full context as actually speaking to this doctrine is Isaiah 53, and therefore, I will address it more fully.
Who has believed what we have heard? And who has the arm of the Lord been revealed to? He grew up before Him like a young plant and like a root out of dry ground. He didn't have an impressive form or majesty that we should look at Him, no appearance that we should desire Him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was.He was like someone people turned away from; He was despised, and we didn't value Him. Yet He Himself bore our sicknesses, and He carried our pains; but we in turn regarded Him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on Him,and we are healed by His wounds. We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished Him for the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth.Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, He did not open His mouth. He was taken away because of oppression and judgment; and who considered His fate? For He was cut off from the land of the living; He was struck because of my people’s rebellion. They made His grave with the wicked and with a rich man at His death, although He had done no violence and had not spoken deceitfully.Yet the Lord was pleased to crush Him severely. When You make Him a restitution offering, He will see His seed, He will prolong His days, and by His hand, the Lord’s pleasure will be accomplished. He will see it out of His anguish, and He will be satisfied with His knowledge. My righteous Servant will justify many, and He will carry their iniquities. Therefore I will give Him the many as a portion, and He will receive the mighty as spoil, because He submitted Himself to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet He bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels. Isaiah 53 :1-12

Here we have the full passage we need to consider, we can break the passage into 3 areas through exegesis: First, with the last verses of chapter 52 we see an eternal conversation between the members of the trinity; in that they are discussing the method of salvation, 52:13-15 unto 53:1. Second, in verses 2-9 speaks of the person of the suffering servant and his atoning work; and it's efficacy. Third, in verse 10-12 are solely speaking of who it is going to save: "the many" to which Jesus reference in Matthew 20:28 and Paul also make it the central point of his discussion in Romans 5:20-21.
