some thoughts on rob bells veiws!
he veiws are a little less orthodox then one would prescribe -- saying the translations of the bible have translated the word gehenna falsely by saying it would be recognised as being a plac...e on eath .. near jerusalem and not the fires of hell ... what i will say too this is that taken rob bells logic then maybe he should renounce christianity all together ... because he should not believe in the crucifixion based on the above fact ... since the god of the bible rejected child sacrifice --
the point is that everything which has a reality to it .. for example the fact there is is a place called gehenna in israel .. take noting away from the fact that the word can be used to discribe something else in the bible .... it is also interest what this place on earth is known for ... people burning their children to a false god balak --- so this ungodly act is also questionably simalar to what happen to an unbeliever ... and the word is to denote that
we also have times in the bible places are name after an encounter with God like phenuel -- and since this happen as an honour to God .. how much more can expect satan to copy the truth and have people name a place in honour of what they precieve to be God but is really satan himself
but this is not even what i want to discuss .. even though it is interesting --- the things i want to assess are some very interesting questions and comments rob made in an interveiw with martin bashir
as i believe the answers and one of the question will be a dead give away
question asked to rob bell ----
before we come to talk to about this book, help us to understand the tragady in japan .. which of these statements is true --- either God is all powerful but he doesnt care about the people in japan, or he cares about the people in japan but is not all powerful
answer given by rob bell ----
1 -- i begin with the belief that when we shed a tear -- God sheds a tear -- so i begin with a divine being who is profoundly empathetic -- compassionate, and stands in solodarity with us
2 -- the dominant story of the scriptures is about restaration, renewal, rebirth... its about a God who in the midst of chaos .. the last word has not been said
ANSWER
this is a great answer to a question which never was asked .... and prehaps this evading the question topic is such that we will not get a decent answer .. which can be judge by the scripture
so what is the correct answer to this .. personally i dont think there is correct one .. but there is a scriptural answer -- which all true believe can rejoice in even those who are lost in the tragedy ... and i do understand it is a painfully catastrophy
but the bible says all things work to the the goood of God .. inother word all things good or bad have place in glorifying God .. we may not understand how .. but the scripture is clear on this
another way to look at is that God decree the end from the beginning .. and the mean of all things but doesnt neccasarily cause the means .. but know how thing will work out .... in his providence
one thing to note is that the questioner pressed on this issue once more and he evaded it again .... now to the answer given ... we find most of the time these answer reflected a biblically naive speaker .. that of a prosparity preacher .. but this guy i believe was a trained person
although God is all the mentioned things ... empathetic -- compassionate .. if this is the veiw taken then it has sadly made God into half baked potato to say ... the God of the bible ... is all that the bible mention, loving, merciful, just, compassionate,
the main thing to understand is that God is loving, but is also a judge of justice .. so those who are in sin he has to judge for the crimes and sins
next question ----
are you a universalist who believes all people will go to heaven regardless to who they respond to jesus christ in this life, is it irrelivent and immaterial about how one responds to christ in this life in regards to determining one eternal destinyanswer to the question ...
i think its extremely important, it is extremely important ( questioner : in your book you said God wins regardless in the end) -- its terribly import and my experience is that all kinds of people have built up dogma on the destination after death ... and right now this is speculation ( questioner : im not asking about when you die ... im asking about here and now .. and what im getting from this book is Gods love will melt people heart eventually .. even in post mortem, so your the one making the speculation about the afterlife )
questioner :
what im asking -- is it ireelivent and immaterial about how one responds to christ about eternal destiny .. is that relivent or irrelivant, does it have a bearing or have no bearinganswer given ...
it has tremendous bearing .. it also raises all sorts of questions --- namely what about people who havent heard -- what about the women i talked to a couple weeks ago -- who was abused by her pastorAnswer ..
now the questioners question is what is more important and cuts robs understanding in half ... as he not only made several unrelated points
this is the question of the century ... is it relivent or irrelivent how one responds to christ -- better put .. is our life more important than christs offer of redemption .. the answer is no
point 1 --- he accuses everyone else of speculation when he is guilty of the same ideal .. he is speculating on what he feels God will do after we die .. and this assumes that we all will die at the same point .. which is false
so this point becomes irrelivent as he is in realm of speculation
point 2 --- if how we respond to christ has tremendous bearing .. then why are you speculating on another method ?
point 3 --- whilest the first point is relivent that many people have not heard of christ .. which through evanelism is being tackled, the second point is irrelivent about a abusive pastor .. there judgement is on their heads .. and has no place in the discussion .. its a red herring -- and all the questions which the response to christ brings up are answered
