the final scriptural reference offered is isah 53 :6
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
he does raise an important point that this is atonement is an all emcompassing manner --- in terms of "all" and "our". but in reality this can't mean all people every where .. if we consider the following facts
Behold, my servant shall act wisely; he shall be high and lifted up, and shall be exalted. As many were astonished at you— his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankind— so shall he sprinkle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him;
for that which has not been told them they see, and that which they have not heard they understand
Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. -- isaiah 52 :12 -15, and 53 :1 -3
this is speaking of the sevent in his final hours of his life not being rocognised as the man he once was-- lets look at a few example to make this clear
"he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him"
here we see some important truth emerge from this -- due to his afflictions we as men would be appauled to his appearence after the beating and manner he was left in on the cross this passage is not speaking to his whole life .. but to the final hours of his life on earth
the other truth can be asked as a question ....
if this is the bitter reality that man would be appauled at his appearence, then how does one come to the appreciation of this beautiful gift of life through the atonement?
the simple answer is : with out the aid of the holy spirit in regeneration no man can come to the complet fulfilment and appreciation of what this act on the means to their lives
regeration of the holy spirit --------> true saving faith in Christ Jesus our LORD (just as john 3 :1 -18 makes clear)
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities : upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief;when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand -- isaiah 53 :4 - 10
these 6 verse lay out the very basis of salvation in the servant what it accomplished, the power of this action between the God of wrath, and the God of justice in one event (im not say there 2 Gods .. but this event reveals both acts of God in unified sence)
Gods wrath which we as sinner deserve .. was fully execised on the beloeved son, and in the justice a people were redeemed .. but these are not address who they are are how man their are
lets consider two verses to illistrate this truth
"Surely he has borne our griefs ... But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities : upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed" and "and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all"
in this section we must not focus on the recievers of this grace .. but on the power of God in this act .. since there is more important issue at hand to really value
the "HE" who this was done to is the centre of this verse ... we owe it all to the servent as our graceous and powerful redeemer
we see God power and glory being demonstrated in this single act more than any where else -- the act of appeasing his WRATH and reconciling us to HIMSELF through his SONS ATONEMENT
the other important point in verse 6 the "all" that have gone astray refers to ALL MEN AND WOMEN ON EARTH this is seen in romans 1 :18 -3 18 and 5 :12 -18
but this does not lead to the conclusion of ALL MEN being saved -- this is an assumption that remain unproveable in the context
Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors -- isaiah 53 :11 -12
now we get to the people who benefit from this salvation and what the "ALL" at the end of verse 6 means
lets consider two examples ... "make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities" and "
"yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors"
a --- here we see that the many can only fer to the all who come to christ on the father command and shall see eternal life as john six tells us ... this is a divine act .. no human act involved
also not that not EVERY SINGLE PERSON is included since only the many will be ransomed in matthew 20 :28 .. many can encompaas a huge number sure, but not every person
b this understanding is re - inforce two more times in these 2 verses ... "yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors" and also "Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many
if these mean anything they can only refer to a chosen people .. other wise the many would have relivence and according to God and isaiah they do , they have an enormous relivence to how we understand salvation through scriptures
