here is another set of objections against the doctrines of grace, more specifically the forth point irresistible grace -- what i will do is interact with this objection
NO ONE CAN COME TO JESUS LEST THE FATHER DRAWS HIM~ Ok, I can't argue with this at all, it's clearly in the Word. God has to initially reach out to us, but the question is, when God is drawing, can men resist the truth? Can men turn away when God draws. Do we have a choice, and are allowed a human response on our part when God draws? Is the only reason men are not saved because God desires to see them lost? Can men when God draws draw back from Him? Does God take men and save them without their hearts being willing?
the objector says that they can not argue with what scripture clearly teaches .. but then they open with a set of question which at hear are actually argue with the premise of john 6
But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
and also ....
Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learnt from the Father comes to me— not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
okay since the objector has risen several questions in their not arguing with this verse .. when in reality these question have that very angle of challenging a view .. and in turn missing the real point of this chapter
we first need to note that a number of times Jesus makes a point of use the one set of words to re emphasis a particular point ... of which is the divine mandate of election and also that there is also a use that God uses to draw people called irresistible grace
so when we consider one of underlined verse .. in fact lets bring two verse for clarification ...
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. and also No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day
the logical way of understanding this is ... that the father had chosen a people unto himself .. to be justified in his son .. and his son will not lose any of those who come to him, they will be the same ones who will enter into eternal life
so to say some one can walk away on his own is to reject the biblical evidence of Jesus keeping his in security found here, and in john 10 :24 -28 -- so if one can lose salvation then is Jesus a liar .. not to me, but to any objection raised as this it is calling Jesus a liar
and are allowed a human response on our part when God draws? Is the only reason men are not saved because God desires to see them lost? Can men when God draws draw back from Him? Does God take men and save them without their hearts being willing?
good question but these question are addressing a false ideal of free will .. we do have a will but either it is in bondage to sin .. and is controlled by our own sinful desires .. or we are free in Christ .. meaning we participate in his life and freedom and do not have our own -- when we look to such questions we must see the underline presupposition ... of "freewill .. what about the will is free is the question, how is ones will free
the whole idea of a response on our part misses the mark, since we are not saying that we don't respond .. in fact the response is even an act of God ... but the more accurate question is .. do we respond from our own doing or is God in control of our response .. if in fact the bible tells us that mans response to God is based on the work of God through the holy spirit --
